I did the same late last year, but I took the nuclear option: Deleted my entire account. When I went back six months later I started with zero followers. Up to 1100 now and I try to curate my feed and be careful about what I comment on and how.
Knowing my replies show up in my follower's feeds is a good way to help keep me honest. :)
I read AI about changing, and it said you can rebrand a political account. Just stop interacting with that junk and you can change your account over time. After a few weeks, my feed changed.
Excellent, well done!

I considered that, Vic. I decided to keep my old account. I delete some of the worst political types. But I started with 1525.

I just didn't want to be associated with my previous account. It was pretty dark. Didn't represent who I am now.
Great article! I think I had a very similar experience
